- Drones need aviation approvals in Dubai and most venues do not allow them without permission.
The best wedding and pre-wedding shoot locations in Dubai include Al Fahidi and Al Seef for heritage, Souk Madinat Jumeirah for Arabian architecture, the desert around Al Qudra, Kite Beach and La Mer for the sea, and Downtown Dubai for the skyline. Many need the operator's permission. A pre-wedding shoot is included in our AED 11,000 Signature package (excl. VAT).
Where are the best pre-wedding shoot locations in Dubai?
Dubai's best-known shoot locations fall into five looks: heritage, Arabian resort, desert, beach and skyline. These are real, well-known places couples ask us about; permissions and fees vary, so treat the "who to ask" column as the first call to make, not a guarantee.
| Location | Look | Who to ask first | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Al Fahidi Historical Neighbourhood | Wind towers, sand-coloured lanes, courtyards | The neighbourhood's management and any museum or café you shoot in | Narrow lanes; respect residents, visitors and heritage buildings |
| Al Seef, Dubai Creek | Restored heritage streets along the Creek, abras | The district's operator | Busy in the evening; early morning is calmer |
| Souk Madinat Jumeirah | Arabian architecture, lanterns, waterways, Burj Al Arab views | The resort's management | Private resort; professional shoots need permission |
| Desert around Al Qudra | Dunes, open sky, golden light | The relevant authority or a licensed desert operator | Remote; plan transport, water and sun safety |
| Kite Beach | Sea, sand and Burj Al Arab on the horizon | Check current rules for professional shoots on public beaches | Busy at sunset at weekends |
| La Mer | Murals, beach and boardwalk | The district's operator | Private development |
| Dubai Marina and JBR | Towers, waterfront promenade, yachts | The relevant operator for the promenade, beach or venue | Very busy; yacht shoots arranged with the charter company |
| Downtown Dubai | Burj Khalifa, Dubai Fountain, Dubai Opera | The master developer or venue | Private development; rules for professional shoots apply |
| Alserkal Avenue | Industrial warehouses, galleries, clean walls | Alserkal Avenue management | Galleries have their own photo rules |
| Al Khawaneej Walk | Greenery and a quieter, garden feel | The site's operator | Calm, intimate setting |
| Hatta | Mountains, dam and lake | The relevant authority and any venue you use | Day trip from the city |
Gulf News has featured Souk Madinat Jumeirah, Souk Al Seef, The Beach at JBR and Al Khawaneej Walk among its picks for pre-wedding shoots, and wedding planners regularly mention desert shoots. Many hotels and restaurants can also make a beautiful setting; a booking at the venue often makes permission easier.
Do you need permission to shoot at these locations?
Usually, yes, for professional photography. Most of Dubai's photogenic places are managed by a private developer, a hotel or a government entity, and each sets its own rules for professional shoots, sometimes with a fee. We do not describe any location as free to shoot unless the operator has confirmed it for your date.
There are two separate questions:
- Does the shoot need a filming permit? The Dubai Film and TV Commission (DFTC) licenses filming for media production in Dubai. Khaleej Times' 2024 explainer on DFTC rules lists weddings and personal use among the exemptions from a filming permit. If the images are for commercial use, such as a brand campaign or advertising, a permit through a licensed production company is likely to be needed.
- Does the location owner allow it? Separately from any permit, the place where you shoot can refuse professional photography, require advance booking or charge a fee. Dubai's 2012 resolution establishing the DFTC also says the approval of the entity that manages the location must be obtained.
Rules change, and this is general guidance, not legal advice. Before booking, we check with the operator and confirm what applies. Our guide on photography permits in Dubai explains the system in more detail.
Which locations suit which style?
Pick the location to match your outfits and the story you want to tell.
| Style | Locations to consider | Outfit tip |
|---|---|---|
| Traditional and heritage | Al Fahidi, Al Seef | Rich colours and embroidery stand out against sand-coloured walls |
| Romantic and Arabian | Souk Madinat Jumeirah | Flowing fabrics; evening lanterns for warm light |
| Desert and editorial | Al Qudra dunes | Long, light fabrics that move in the wind |
| Beach and relaxed | Kite Beach, La Mer | Light colours; bare feet are fine |
| City and glamorous | Downtown Dubai, Dubai Marina | Formal wear; blue hour for city lights |
| Modern and minimal | Alserkal Avenue | Clean lines and solid colours |
| Nature and calm | Al Khawaneej Walk, Hatta | Earthy tones |
Couples often combine two nearby locations in one session, such as Al Fahidi and Al Seef, which are both on Dubai Creek.
What is the best time of day and year for a shoot?
The best time for outdoor photos in Dubai is the hour after sunrise or the hour before sunset, and the best season is October to April.
| Time | Light | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Sunrise to an hour after | Soft and clear; fewest crowds | Desert, beaches, heritage areas |
| Midday | Harsh and hot | Indoor or shaded locations only |
| Golden hour before sunset | Warm and flattering | Almost everywhere |
| Blue hour after sunset | City lights and deep blue sky | Downtown Dubai, Dubai Marina |
From May to September, choose sunrise or indoor venues, keep sessions short and bring water. Wedding season runs from October to April, so weekend dates and popular locations get busy; book early. See our wedding photography prices for availability and packages.
Can you use a drone at your shoot location?
Only with the right approvals and the venue's permission. In Dubai, drones are regulated by the Dubai Civil Aviation Authority (DCAA). Its December 2025 directive on recreational drones limits recreational flying to DCAA-approved zones, within visual line of sight and below 122 metres, and commercial flights need separate permissions.
In practice, most hotels, developments and public areas do not allow drones without approval, and many are near airports or restricted airspace. Our Heirloom wedding film includes drone footage only where permitted. Full details are in our Dubai photography permits guide.
How do you book a pre-wedding shoot?
Tell us your date, your two or three favourite locations and the look you want, and we check permissions and plan the timing. A pre-wedding shoot is included in wedding photography Signature (AED 11,000) and Heirloom (AED 25,000), and can be added to Essential. Prices exclude 5% VAT; any location fees are quoted separately before you confirm.
If you want a short film of the session too, see our wedding films. Send your details through the quote form and we reply the same day on WhatsApp.
Frequently asked questions
Where can we do a pre-wedding shoot in Dubai?
Popular choices are Al Fahidi Historical Neighbourhood and Al Seef for heritage, Souk Madinat Jumeirah for Arabian architecture, the desert around Al Qudra for dunes, Kite Beach and La Mer for the sea, and Dubai Marina or Downtown Dubai for skyline views. Permission rules differ for each.
Is it free to do a photoshoot at Dubai landmarks?
Do not assume so. Many landmarks, malls, hotels and waterfront districts are privately managed and set their own rules and fees for professional photography. We check with the operator before booking and tell you what applies.
Do we need a DFTC permit for a pre-wedding shoot?
Reporting on Dubai Film and TV Commission rules lists weddings and personal use among the exemptions from a filming permit. That does not remove the need for the location owner's permission, and commercial use of the images would change the picture. Rules can change, so we confirm for your location.
What is the best month for a pre-wedding shoot in Dubai?
October to April, when temperatures suit outdoor shoots. In summer, shoot at sunrise or choose indoor and shaded locations.
How much does a pre-wedding shoot cost?
A pre-wedding shoot in Dubai is included in our Signature wedding photography package (AED 11,000) and Heirloom (AED 25,000), and can be added to any package. Prices exclude 5% VAT; any location fees are quoted separately.
Can we fly a drone at our wedding or shoot?
Only with the right approvals. Dubai's aviation authority limits recreational drones to approved zones, commercial flights need separate permissions, and most venues have their own drone rules. Our Heirloom film includes drone footage only where permitted.
